simple student ministry

I just finished reading Simple Student Ministry-A Clear Process For Strategic Youth Discipleship by Eric Geiger// Jeff Borton

Eric also co-wrote Simple Church which I read first.  I loved Simple Church and was interested in what they had to say about the process of discipleship in the student ministry context.  I love Simple Student Ministry.  This book isn't too different from Simple Church but it gives examples of other student ministries and how they are implementing discipleship and using a simple process.

It is a great help and reminder for what student ministry is about.  Discipleship and not being an crazy busy event planner.

Excited that I was able to take part in what God was doing in one of the youth groups students lives. Nick S. came up to me after youth group and had some questions. That night Nick started his relationship with Jesus and now is one of God's children. Praise God! Nick told me that he had been thinking about things since winter retreat. I'm glad God choose to let me be a part of Nick's journey. Please keep Nick in your prayers.

Fund Hazing

Fund Hazing is the title of the Article on p.64 of the May/June 2009 Youth Worker Jouranl. This article is written by Steve Argue. I thought that this was a great article to really make you think about how you do fundrasing in youth ministry. You need to ask this question about your fundrasing method, what are you teaching the youth with this method?

Are youth ministries teaching and encouraging consumerism with their methods of fundrasing? I would encourage you if you are envolved in youth ministry to read this article.

On a side note I remember the first time I crossed paths with Steve Argue. I was doing a youth internship at a church and we took the youth to SEMP. Steve was one of the instructers at SEMP. It was neat to read an article by him in Youth Worker Journal.

April 26th the youth at Oak Lawn Bible Church are going to be hosting a dinner and running the evening service. The youth have been working hard the last few weeks getting ready for it. Now its crunch time and things are startin to come together. I pray that adults will come out and be encouraged and encourage the youth and that Jesus will be glorified. I'm excited to see what God is going to do through this.

Breakaway 09

This is the all-night teen outreach event that we take part in every year. This year it was March 21 & 22. Our youth did a great job of inviting friends this year. We were also able to give a discount because of a generous donation we received. We also were able to rent a school bus which was so awesome and made things so much easier. The speaker that was suppose to give the Gospel presentation never made it but Bill stepped up and did a great job. Thank you Lord for working through Bill to share you good news with the teens. There was many who stood to accepted God's free gift of salvation that night as well as those wanting to get back on track. I'm thankful that God allowed me to be apart of His work through this event. Please pray for those that stood. Pray that they would connect with others to help them grow in their faith and stand by them through the difficult times.

This wasn't the first time we got stuck. I'm just glad that Kaleb was able to capture this part of our trip so we can remember it for years to come...I'm hoping to get a highlight video together myself but that won't be for a while.

Its about that time to start thinking about summer!  Wait didn't we just finish summer!?  Well at least start thinking about a summer Mission trip.   Get the details at OLBC's Youth site!  This trip will keep us close to home but we will be helping out some refugees.

What are you doing now to be hands and feet for God?

I've been going through this book as a resource for a youth group series about apologetics (defending your faith). This book addresses many of the issues that we will face in today's world. Their are several interviews with experts. You will be presents the facts. I think it is a must read for those that have a relationship with Christ and those that want to examine the evidence for themselves.

I'm pretty excited about the new "contest" that we started in youth group this year, The Trek. The goal of The Trek is Growth, Accountablity, and Reward. Part of the growth aspect involves the 1 Min Bible. This is a great tool to get into God's word. It short and its truth and if you want to spend more then a 1 min it gives related text to go deeper!
Check it out and start spending time with God 1 minute at a time! See you on The Trek.

Flambeau 08

Well I just got back from the canoe trip on the Flambeau river with the youth group. We do this trip through Camp Forest Springs. I have been praying that God would use this trip in a mighty way and I believe He did. Our guides were Luke & Maria and they have awesome hearts for God and they were tools in God's hands. They poured into our youth and loved on them. I beleive that God challenged us all on this trip and we all were streched. I'm so glad that God match us together. This was a great time to un-plug from our normal schedules and just hangout with God and each other. My pray now is that we would not just return to our normal schedules but that we will continue to live out what God challenged us with on this trip.
